In the realm of Ryoza, Queen Shinou rules while her top general, Grand Duke Taikou, guards the kingdom with an army of powerful war-lizards called Touda. Ten-year-old Erin lives in Ake, a village in Tai-Kou charged with raising those beasts, and she loves watching her mother Soyon at work as the village's head Touda doctor. Soyon comes from the Mist People, an old clan with green hair and eyes. When disaster strikes the Grand Duke's strongest Touda while it is in Soyon's care, her mother is harshly punished. Trying to rescue her, Erin falls into a river and is carried toward Shin-Ou. Unable to return home, she has to build a new life among strangers and search for the truth about beasts and people, while friction between the two regions keeps growing. The story is a fantasy drama adapted from Uehashi Nahoko's novels.
