The Yamato crew returns for one last mission, and the film knows exactly what it costs them to answer that call. In 2201, a year after the Yamato rescued Earth from radioactive contamination, the planet has nearly healed from the war with Gamilus, and rebuilding has spread to other worlds. Then former members of the Yamato's crew pick up a strange, garbled message that appears to come from a white comet heading for Earth. They seize their old space fortress and set out on a new fight, a final voyage meant to protect Earth from this fresh danger. The film is a science fiction action drama built around that last mission.
