This is a 22-minute apology disguised as a joke, built entirely around the fact that Ritsuka Fujimaru, the player character, the one piece of the game you actually control, has been missing from most Fate Grand Order anime adaptations. The special doesn't try to be profound about it. It just leans into the comedy of a cast that's spent entire seasons doing hero work without their actual protagonist, like a party realizing mid-dungeon that the main character logged off hours ago. By the time the credits roll, it's already sold you on what comes next: an actual anime where the guy gets to show up.

Ritsuka Fujimaru is the final master left to humanity, and without him the restoration of humanity could never have succeeded. He does have one weakness, though: he is honest to a fault. In this one-episode comedy special, Fujimaru's plain and simple questions keep rattling the heroic spirits around him, with plenty of slapstick along the way. The episode aired during the Fate Project New Year's Eve 2022 television special, where it served to announce the ONA series arriving in 2023.
