The OVA doesn't exist to service the main plot. It exists to show you Erina alone, away from her father's shadow, learning to breathe. You watch her lower her guard around people who actually want her there, not her talent. That vulnerability costs her everything she was trained to be, and the show knows exactly what it's giving you.

Erina Nakiri flees home to get away from her domineering father after abrupt changes shake up the leadership of Tootsuki Culinary Academy. She finds shelter at Polar Star Dormitory, where the noisy, unruly atmosphere is nothing like the polished life she is used to. With support from her friends, she slowly settles in among the dorm's odd residents and makes lasting memories away from the kitchen. The single-episode OVA was packaged with volume 29 of the manga and mixes drama with ecchi elements.
