The water gun survival game strips away everything serious about Free! and just lets four idiots be idiots together. Every interaction lands because you've already spent a season watching these guys actually care about each other, so watching them betray each other for a water gun is just funny. This is what the show earned the right to do, turn the pool into a playground and let the characters prove they're worth hanging around with, even when nothing's at stake.

Forbidden All-Hard is a single-episode OVA for Free! -Eternal Summer-, released in 2015. It never aired on television and came packaged with the seventh Blu-ray and DVD volume of the season. As a Sports series with Comedy and Slice of Life genres, this extra installment leans toward light, everyday humor.
