You walk in expecting a cute supernatural rom-com and leave gutted by how much these people matter to you. Tohru doesn't save the Soma family with determination or magic; she saves them by refusing to stop seeing them as human when they've spent years convinced they're broken. The curse is real, the pain is real, but what actually destroys you is watching someone choose to love people everyone else abandoned, one quiet conversation at a time.

After a family tragedy upends her life, high schooler Tohru Honda ends up living alone in a tent, not realizing she has pitched it on private land owned by the mysterious Soma family. When Yuki, the so-called prince of her school, and his older cousin Shigure learn she is homeless, they kindly offer her a place in their home. Soon she is caught in a fight between Yuki and his hot-tempered cousin Kyo, and she discovers the family's own well-kept secret: when hugged by someone of the opposite sex, they turn into animals of the Chinese zodiac. The 25-episode first season blends comedy, drama, romance and the supernatural as Tohru settles into life with the Somas.
