Genshiken 2 knows the difference between loving otaku culture and being consumed by it, and it finds all the comedy in that gap. A club full of people who should get along spends half the season actively not getting along, not because of betrayal or drama but because they're all too busy being themselves. The doujin circle finally happens, but selling your work to actual strangers hits different than daydreaming about it, and the show watches every awkward, real moment with genuine affection.

The Genshiken is back, now operating under Sasahara's leadership as the club enters a new chapter. Sasahara, now club president, grows into the role, while newcomer Ogiue, who openly scorns otaku, has a hard time finding her place in the eccentric group. Once the club earns a spot at the upcoming Comic Festival, its plan to make and sell its own doujinshi becomes real, and actually pulling it off turns out to be far harder than anyone hoped. Later, the members can't stop gossiping about Tanaka and Ohno, whose relationship edges cautiously forward. Adapted from Kio Shimoku's seinen manga, the season is a comedic slice of life about fandom and club life.
