A Swedish diplomat stationed in Pyongyang lives under constant watch, his every movement monitored by the state. Isak, First Secretary at the embassy, is told to keep his distance from locals, yet he secretly sees Bok-joo, a local traffic officer. When his final attempt to extend his stay is turned down, he begs her to come back to Stockholm with him, but she refuses and suddenly disappears. Unaware of the danger he may be putting her in, Isak asks Myeong-jun, his assigned interpreter, for help. The refusal only feeds his growing suspicion of everyone around him. Gwangjang is a drama and romance film about a hidden relationship under the eye of surveillance.
