It wears you down in the best way. Twenty minutes of Papa doing something catastrophically stupid with total conviction, then shrugging it off with "kore de ii no da," and by episode ten you're saying it too. This is the 1990 pass at Akatsuka's gag manga, so the machinery is all intact: Papa's Fool University logic, Bakabon eating the fallout, Mama absorbing it with a patience that should be studied, and baby Hajime quietly being the smartest person in the house while nobody notices. Rerere no Ojisan sweeps the same stretch of road forever. Honkan-san fires his gun at nothing. Nothing escalates, nothing resolves, no arc is coming, and that's the whole point. Put it on when your brain is fried and let a senile genius run your neighborhood into the ground.

A man who was once a genius has grown deeply eccentric and senile, and his behavior turns ordinary days upside down. Together with his old friends, he stirs up one outlandish problem after another around the neighborhood, and it falls to his family to deal with the fallout each time. The result is a TV comedy built on absurd mishaps and the relatives left to clean up after them.
