In 2079, the invention of a brainwave device called BrainStation sets off a fourth industrial revolution and ushers in what people call the virtual cyber age. With a BrainStation, anyone can link into a vast cyber world built like a neural network, with the whole system run and directed by a master brain named Watson. The promise seems limitless. But problems begin to appear over time: many users can no longer tell the virtual from the real, and some fall into psychosis or long-term addiction to the digital world. The result is a twelve-episode sci-fi fantasy drama about life in a society wired into a machine-run reality.
