Maki expects rejection the moment Umi talks to him, which is exactly why their dynamic works. She's not performing for him the way she does for everyone else in the building. First-year Maki Maehara expects a quiet high school life: he can't keep up with his classmates' conversations and spends his free time on video games and B-movies. Then his self-introduction on the first day catches the eye of Umi Asanagi, whom the boys rank as the second cutest girl in class, just behind her best friend Yuu Amami. Umi turns out to secretly love the same things he does. Though she belongs to the most popular group in class, she starts coming to Maki's home on Fridays, where the two play games, watch movies, read manga and eat junk food out of sight of everyone else. The visits become a weekly routine, and a real friendship grows between two people with very different places in the class. Maki is sure she is out of his league, yet he begins to wonder whether there could be more between them. The story is a romantic comedy about an unlikely pair and the quiet, private hours they share.
