Kabaneri trades character for spectacle and wins the exchange completely. Half a year after the events of the television series, Ikoma, Mumei and the crew of the Iron Fortress arrive at Unato, a ravaged coastal zone overrun by the deadly Kabane. There they fight off Kabane that attack in patterns no one has seen before. A group of survivors asks for their help in taking the region back, and the new alliance pushes deeper toward the castle to learn why these Kabane are different. What they uncover about the Kabane proves more horrifying than they expected, and Ikoma, Mumei and their allies come face to face with the despair hidden within Unato. The film combines action, horror, drama and supernatural fantasy.
