Hiromi and Haruko belong to their middle school's track-and-field club, training together with their sights set on the Olympics someday. As the national sports meet approaches, the two throw themselves into preparing for the long-distance relay race, pushing each other toward that shared goal. Trouble arrives when Haruko becomes the target of bullying, leaving her shaken even as Hiromi stays by her side with encouragement and support. On the eve of the relay meet, Haruko's father sits the girls down and shares a story from his own wartime past, offering them a lesson about what truly matters in life. Through the ups and downs of their time in the club, Hiromi and Haruko come to understand what courage, dreams, and friendship really mean, carrying those lessons with them as they head into the race that has defined their year.
