Reno and Iharu stalking Hoshina through his day off is the exact low-stakes comedy the franchise needed after everything tries to kill them. The show doesn't pretend this matters. It just lets you watch these characters exist when nobody's fighting for their lives, and that quiet permission to breathe is its own kind of relief.

The Defense Force rarely gets downtime, and when a day off finally arrives, Reno finds himself completely lost. Hard training with the Third Division has become such a habit that he cannot remember how to spend free hours. Then he notices that Vice-Captain Soushirou Hoshina seems to have plans of his own for the day. Curious about the secret, Reno teams up with his fellow Defense Force member Iharu Furuhashi to trail him. What begins as a simple tailing mission soon heads somewhere neither of them expected. This one-episode slice-of-life special screened alongside the Kaiju No.8 compilation film.
