Anime Like Kaiketsu Zorori: ZZ no Himitsu
Zorori's whole identity is tied to something his mother gave him, and the movie doesn't make a huge deal out of that until the moment it disappears. The joke setup (an alarm clock for free donuts) crashes directly into something real, something a kid watching this actually understands. That's the whole trick of Zorori: it sneaks genuine heart past the comedy, then acts like it was always just about the donuts.
SYNOPSIS
Zorori's latest invention, an alarm clock designed to never miss free donuts, misfires in the most unexpected way. When a stray tear falls as he remembers his mother, the machine warps into something far stranger: a time machine that yanks him, Ishishi, and Noshishi backward through the years. The ZZ mark on Zorori's chest, a precious gift from his mom that he's carried his whole life, vanishes in the chaos. Desperate to recover both the symbol and their present, the trio crash-lands in the past where they meet Zororene, a young woman designing clothes for a living. She's Zorori's mother, and she recognizes her son immediately. With her help and eventually his father Zorondo Ron, Zorori faces off against both the police and a massive kaiju determined to claim his time machine. What begins as a simple mission to get home becomes a chance to understand the woman who made him who he is. Adventure, comedy, and unexpected heart collide as one pint-sized fox discovers why that mark on his chest means everything.
