This is a one-off action comedy that knows exactly how long it needs to be. Ryotsu stumbling through protecting his district while an actual bomb expert does the real work, and a vigilante with taste is burning down the ugliness of Tokyo, creates a three-way collision that never wastes a frame. The movie treats destruction of eyesore architecture as fundamentally funny and kind at once. It costs ninety minutes and gives you the feeling that someone made this for people who actually live in cities and hate what gets built in them.
A bomber calling himself Benten is destroying the ugly buildings of wicked multi-billionaire Shinatora, whose construction is swallowing whole parts of downtown Tokyo. The FBI sends bomb disposal expert Lisa Hoshino and her robot assistant Dandy to Japan on a lecture tour, working with local police, and Ryotsu is reluctantly teamed with Lisa to keep the people of Kameari safe. When a new email warning reveals that Benten's next target is Shinatora World, a huge new amusement park, Lisa and Ryotsu rush there. They find a giant Soviet-era rocket carrying a bomb strong enough to wipe out all of Katsushika. Why Benten strikes only at Shinatora's buildings remains a mystery. Part action film, part comedy, the movie mixes explosive danger with laughs.
