Anime Like Koiko no Mainichi
A gangster trying to build a normal life with his wife becomes the pawn in his own boss's obsession. The show treats their marriage like it actually matters, even as the criminal world systematically tears at it. Sabu's desperation to protect what he has becomes the real violence here, not the yakuza politics that keep pulling him under.
SYNOPSIS
Sabu has left his yakuza days behind, or so he thinks. Married to the spirited Koiko, he attempts to build something resembling a normal life in Shinjuku's shadowy streets. That fragile peace shatters when Koiko's selfless act of heroism catches the attention of Tominaga, Sabu's former boss. What begins as gratitude transforms into obsession. Tominaga becomes consumed with desire for Koiko, and he's willing to manipulate the criminal underworld to get her. He orchestrates increasingly treacherous assignments for Sabu, each one designed to trap him in prison long enough for Tominaga to step in as Koiko's "protector." Sabu finds himself caught between his wife's safety and the predatory schemes of a powerful man who refuses to take no for an answer. The comedy and warmth of their daily life collides headlong with the brutal reality that some bonds can't be escaped so easily. As Sabu scrambles to protect both his freedom and his marriage, the line between survival and sacrifice grows dangerously thin.
