A man who stopped living finds a broken android who shouldn't be able to move, yet she's making breakfast for him anyway. Neither of them has a future, but they build one together across a single summer, small gesture by small gesture. The movie knows the cruelty of its premise from frame one, then chooses tenderness instead, and that choice costs everything by the end.
In 2039, helper androids called Parents are common, taking care of shopping, chores and many other everyday jobs. Keiichiro lost his family in a traffic accident and has left his band. One day he finds an outdated android in a junk pile and brings her home. She remembers nothing of her former owner and can manage only the simplest tasks. When a repair shop says she cannot be fixed, he decides to throw her out, but the next morning he finds her cooking breakfast for him. He names her Flower and keeps her, and over one summer the two grow close. Her model is badly out of date, though, and she may not last much longer. The film is a drama and slice-of-life story with science fiction and music elements. It is a longer, somewhat altered theatrical version of an independently made OVA.
