A kid keeps dreaming about angels, then an actual angel crashes into his life, and the show immediately stops caring about explaining why and just commits to the bit. The comedy works because it's willing to be stupid in specific, character-driven ways: Ikaros has no social filters, Tomoki's a mess, and watching them collide is genuinely funny without trying to be clever. Tomoki Sakurai is an ordinary student who wants nothing more than peace and quiet. Since childhood he has dreamed of an angel whose face he can never recall, and he always wakes up crying. His childhood friend Sohara worries about the dreams and asks Eishirou Sugata, an eccentric upperclassman obsessed with the sky, for help. Sugata ties the dream to the New World, a floating anomaly that scientists cannot explain, and forms the New World Discovery Club to observe it. While Tomoki waits under the cherry trees that night, a girl named Ikaros drops from the sky and starts calling him master, ending his quiet life. From there the club goes about its daily routine while learning more about the Angeloids who have come to Earth. The show mixes comedy, ecchi and romance with sci-fi and supernatural elements.
