You call a phone number by accident and a goddess answers, and the show commits completely to the bit: she stays, she falls in love with you, and now your broke college life is tangled up with divine intervention that somehow makes everything worse. Keiichi is genuinely good-natured in a way that doesn't read as naive or weak, which is why watching him navigate impossible situations with actual kindness instead of scheming feels earned. The comedy lands because the show trusts you to care about these people first, which means the supernatural chaos that keeps derailing their relationship hits different every single time.
Keiichi Morisato hopes university will be good to him, but he has no luck at all, whether in clubs, love or everyday life, because he was born under an unlucky star. Left to mind the dorm while his seniors are away, he works through a pile of chores. When he finally picks up the phone, he reaches a goddess help line, and moments later a goddess named Belldandy steps out of his mirror. Keiichi half-jokingly wishes that she would stay with him forever, and the wish is granted. Living with her gets him thrown out of his all-male dormitory, and the pair end up lodging at a Buddhist temple. Awkward and uneasy with each other at first, they slowly grow closer in a supernatural romantic comedy about an unlikely couple.
