The voice actors know exactly what the fans want and give it to them without apology. Grell's fantasies, William's deadpan delivery, Ronald Knox in full color for the first time, this is pure franchise in-joke comedy that only works if you've lived in this world. Yana Toboso's original art paired with professional voice acting creates something the anime never quite committed to: letting these characters be funny on purpose, not by accident.
Valentine's Day is close, and the grim reaper Grell Sutcliff is making chocolates for the demon butler Sebastian Michaelis when a crowd of good-looking men crashes in through the window. Fellow reaper William T. Spears comes first and only scolds her, and then Sebastian himself arrives. The room keeps filling as Grell's unlikely harem grows to include two Phantomhive servants, the trading company manager Lau, Viscount Druitt, the Queen's butler Ash Landers, and Prince Soma with his servant Agni. The Undertaker then turns up as the Valentine's Fairy. The picture drama is told through original artwork by Yana Toboso, including Grell imagining a kiss with Sebastian and Ronald Knox shown in color.
