A hypercompetent assassin and a gun-obsessed shut-in running a café together is the setup, but what hits is watching two people who communicate through violence learn to exist in the same room without it. The animation moves like liquid violence when it needs to, then settles into the quiet exhaustion of two girls sharing a shift. Everything else, the plot, the logic of the gunfights, the stakes, matters less than watching Chisato's smile crack and Takina's wall come down over a single cup of coffee.

Takina and Chisato couldn't be more different. Takina Inoue is a skilled, perfectionist Lycoris, one of the orphaned girls Japan's DA organization trains as assassins. After she disobeys orders during a hostage crisis, she is reassigned to LycoReco, a Tokyo café that serves as a front. Her new partner, the celebrated prodigy Chisato Nishikigi, seems barely interested in her duties. Instead she pulls Takina into odd jobs for people who need help, from short-distance deliveries to late-night pickups. Takina is baffled when Chisato stops a group of armed attackers without killing a single one. While Takina wants nothing more than to get back into DA, Chisato sets out to show her that life holds more than taking lives. The series pairs action with everyday slice-of-life café routines.
