A remote island catches fire between two worlds, one without technology ever invited war to their soil. Shin's crash landing forces him to choose between the life he's fighting for and the life that's teaching him why fighting matters. The animation does more than look beautiful, every frame of dogfighting and hand-drawn destruction carries the weight of what's actually at stake, which is why the abrupt, unresolved ending devastates more than it frustrates. This is a prequel that doesn't serve the franchise. It stands alone, leaves you hollow, and makes you rewatch it immediately.

Set one year before the Zentraedi reach Earth, the story covers the last days of the war between the U.N. Spacy and the anti-U.N. factions. Ace pilot Shin Kudo is shot down by the anti-U.N. side's newest fighter and ends up on Mayan, a remote island where technology barely exists. While he stays there to recover from his injuries, the island's calm is broken by a battle involving the U.N.'s latest fighter, the VF-0. The five-episode OVA mixes mecha action, adventure, drama and romance.
