Kira and Athrun are still fighting the same war two years later, just with different names on the uniforms. Two years have passed since the Destiny Plan collapsed in Cosmic Era 75, yet peace remains out of reach. Fighting between Naturals and Coordinators goes on, independence movements are springing up across Earth, and Blue Cosmos attacks keep growing stronger. To contain the chaos, a world peace monitoring organization called COMPASS is founded, with PLANT Chairwoman Lacus Clyne as its first leader. Kira Yamato and his comrades join as members and step into regional battles to keep the peace. Then a newly formed nation called FOUNDATION appears and proposes a joint operation to strike the Blue Cosmos headquarters. The film blends mecha action, science fiction drama and romance.
