Nobody talks about this one. A single song about childhood fear becomes something that stays with you longer than hour-long episodes that cost ten times as much to animate. The music does what animation alone never could, it reaches into a specific memory you didn't know you were carrying, the one about being small and alone in the dark, and it doesn't try to fix it or make it beautiful. Just holds it there. A kid afraid of an old toilet becomes everyone's kid, everyone's fear, everyone's moment of understanding that some things from childhood don't actually go away. This is what happens when a real composer and a real artist spend their entire budget on the thing that matters.

Mukashi Toilet ga Kowakatta! is a single-episode music video made to accompany a song by Umezu Kazuo. The song was featured on Minna no Uta, a program broadcast by NHK.
