The OVA strips away everything but what made season one feel like hanging out with people you actually know. A whole episode of the Service Club competing over who makes the best wife sounds ridiculous on paper. It is ridiculous, and the show knows that's the entire point. Hachiman's deadpan narration lands harder when the stakes are this small. You get Komachi, Shuzuka, and Yui riffing together in ways the main series never had time for. By the end you're not thinking about plot, you're thinking about the next time you'll see these people again.

Hachiman Hikigaya doubts that marriage is worth much and sees its happy image as misleading. His skepticism is put to the test when the Service Club is asked to help a local municipal magazine promote marriage to young people. None of the members has any firsthand experience with the subject, and neither does their advisor, Hiratsuka. The deadline is only a week away. Yukino brings in Hachiman's younger sister Komachi to lend a hand. Before long the group, Yui and their teacher included, gets sidetracked and starts competing over who would make the best wife. The result is a one-episode comedy with romance and slice-of-life touches.
