It makes you sit with the cruelest question the original TV series never had the guts to ask: if the man you love comes back without the memories of loving you, is he still him? Miaka spends these six episodes chasing pieces of Tamahome inside a man named Taka, and every recovered fragment costs somebody something. Tenkou is the rare late-franchise villain who actually raises the stakes instead of padding them, dragging the gods out of the Universe of the Four Gods and turning a love story into an apocalypse. The real gift is the breathing room for the Suzaku Seven, Tasuki and Chichiri finally get scenes that treat them as people rather than plot armor, and the art is a clear step up from the first OVA. It is rushed, and you genuinely cannot start here, OVA 1 is required homework and it is a mess. Do it anyway. You did not survive the TV ending to leave Miaka standing there unfinished.

Tamahome has been reborn in the real world as Taka Sukunami, and his romance with Miaka Yuuki soon blooms again. Their happiness is shaken when Ren Shigyou, a new student at Miaka's high school, resents the couple and uses his manipulative talents to turn classmates against them. After an attack by his followers, Miaka and Taka fall from the school roof into a red light and land in the Universe of the Four Gods. There they learn that an evil demon is behind their troubles. Taka will vanish unless he regains the memories of his life as Tamahome, which are held in seven jewels. With their old companions, the two race to recover the stones, while the evil Tenkou blocks most of their efforts and uses his new power to call the Gods out of the book. The six-episode OVA mixes adventure, fantasy, drama and romance.
