Yato isn't your typical deity. This minor god has no shrine, no worshippers and no money, and he takes on odd jobs for five yen each. When his weapon partner gets fed up and walks out, things look bleak, until a high school girl named Hiyori Iki shoves him out of the path of a bus and takes the hit herself. She survives, but her soul comes loose and keeps drifting out of her body. Hiyori pays Yato to set her right, only to learn he needs a new partner before he can help, so she reluctantly joins his search. Along the way she is drawn into a hidden world of gods, spirits and ayakashi, while a god from Yato's past resurfaces with no friendly intentions.
