Rikuo spends half his time pretending to be human, half his time leading a yokai clan, and the show actually commits to the tension of living both lives instead of treating it like a gimmick. Haguromo-Gitsune doesn't negotiate, doesn't wait for him to get stronger, doesn't care about his heritage or his conflicted feelings. She just comes, and suddenly Rikuo has to stop being a caught-between kid and actually lead people who depend on him.

Rikuo Nura looks like an ordinary middle schooler, but he is the grandson of Nurarihyon, master of a yokai clan, and the heir to the Nura Clan. He has embraced his yokai side while keeping yokai a secret, which is hard with the Keikain onmyouji clan and his yokai-obsessed friend Kiyotsugu around. Fresh from settling the conflict with the Shikoku yokai, he gets no rest: the fox demon Hagoromo Gitsune, an old enemy of his family, returns after 400 years and sweeps through Kyoto with overwhelming power. Long ago, the same demon came between Nurarihyon and the human woman he loved. Now her vendetta against the Nura family threatens to pull Rikuo into all-out war. Supernatural action follows as he fights to protect the people who matter to him.
