An octopus civilization where donuts are currency and identity is a void you're born into. The conceit never winks at you, it builds a complete world where a fishcake tube is shelter, a donut hole is existential lack, and becoming a sucker is salvation. This is absurdist worldbuilding that trusts you to follow the logic without explaining the joke, which means it lands harder than anything trying to be quirky on purpose.

Octopolis is a civilization founded by octopuses. Its residents eat donuts and sleep tucked inside chikuwa, the tube-shaped fishcakes. Each of them sees itself as the hole in a donut, and they share a powerful drive to fill that emptiness by becoming suckers, which stand for complete wholeness. The film was made as a 2025 graduate project in the animation department of Tokyo University of the Arts' Graduate School of Film and New Media.
