Hiromichi Kojima arrives in Okinawa desperate to break out of his batting slump, but instead finds himself facing something far more interesting: Toua Tokuchi, a street pitcher who dominates an underground gambling version of baseball called One Out. Tokuchi's fastball clocks in at a modest 134 kilometers per hour, yet he has won 499 straight one-on-one duels against batters. When Kojima brings Tokuchi to the professional Lycaons, the pitcher clashes with team owner Tsuneo Saikawa over pay and proposes an unconventional contract. Tokuchi earns five million yen per out but loses fifty million yen with each run allowed. With every game able to make or break him, Tokuchi must outwit everyone who stands in his way. The result is a psychological sports story where mind games count as much as the pitches themselves.
