Kaito walks into a puzzle and realizes the puzzle is also a trap, and by then it's already too late. The show doesn't waste time on setup, it throws you into death games where the only way out is thinking faster than the person trying to kill you, and even then you're not safe because the puzzle itself might be rigged. Watching him dismantle a lethal maze one layer at a time, knowing the animation budget ran out but the puzzle design never did, is the entire point.

Kaito Daimon is an ordinary high school student in every way but one: he has a demonic talent for solving puzzles. When he is invited to sit some special tests of that ability, he suspects the tests are a test themselves. He soon lands inside a Philosopher's Puzzle built by the sinister group POG, a maze of traps where a wrong answer means death. Kaito solves his way out, saving both himself and his childhood friend Nanoha, who is trapped in the scheme with him. Now named a Solver, he must travel the world with other Solvers to crack the lethal riddles POG keeps leaving behind. The series mixes action and mystery, with deadly stakes riding on every puzzle.
