Akane gets her own story for once, pulled back into a childhood memory that forces her to actually choose instead of just react to Ranma's chaos. The animation breathes here in ways the TV series never could, and the soundtrack turns what could've been a throwaway romance into something that sticks with you long after the two episodes end. This is what happens when the staff stops juggling the ensemble and lets one character matter completely.

Akane suddenly recalls a trip she took to Ryugenzawa as a small child, when a boy named Shinnosuke saved her from a giant platypus. She goes back to Ryugenzawa and meets Shinnosuke once more, and he falls in love with her. Blaming herself for the life-threatening injuries he has suffered, Akane decides to stay and lend a hand. Ranma is irritated by this, believing Akane has fallen for Shinnosuke, and he is ready to do whatever it takes to get her back. The two-episode OVA mixes adventure, comedy and romance.
