Sakuta has to choose between the girl he loves and the girl he could have saved, and there is no right answer. The movie spends two hours stripping away every emotional defense you built, then asks you to sit with a decision that breaks him either way. Mai and Shouko's arcs don't resolve into neat closure, they collapse into something heavier, something true.

Sakuta Azusagawa, a second-year high school student in Fujisawa, has spent six happy months with his girlfriend Mai Sakurajima, the older student he first met as a bunny girl in a library. Then his first crush, Shouko Makinohara, reappears, and for reasons no one can explain there are two of her: one still in middle school and one fully grown. Sakuta ends up living with Shouko, and the adult version's teasing hold over him drives a serious wedge between him and Mai. Complications multiply when he finds the younger Shouko in the hospital with a serious illness, and his old scars begin to throb whenever she is near. With her strange situation somehow centered on him and her life resting in his hands, Sakuta has to face his own conflicting feelings in this supernatural romantic drama.
