The body-swap premise is a Trojan horse for something devastatingly simple: two people falling in love across time and space before they even know each other's names. Two teenagers wake up in the wrong bodies. Mitsuha has spent her life in a quiet rural town deep in the mountains, longing for the busy city life of Tokyo. Taki already lives in the heart of that city as a high school student, balancing friends, a part-time job at an Italian restaurant and hopes of a career in architecture. When Mitsuha wakes in Taki's room and Taki finds himself in her place in the countryside, neither can explain what is happening. As they each live the other's life, their actions begin to reshape one another's days, and they set out to find each other in search of an answer. The result is a supernatural romance and drama about two strangers bound together by fate and circumstance.
