Hodaka and Hina's relationship doesn't feel like a story, it feels like watching someone fall in love in real time, messy and selfish and desperate and true. The rain never stops, the city keeps moving, everything points toward sacrifice, and the film refuses to look away from what love actually costs. Hodaka, a high school runaway from an isolated island, arrives in Tokyo and quickly runs out of money. Seeing how the endless rain weighs on the city, Hodaka suggests she hire herself out as a sunshine girl who clears the sky for people when they need it most. At first their fortunes improve, but a gift like hers may come with a heavy price. This supernatural romance drama blends everyday life with quiet wonder.
