Two people meeting in rain until they can't anymore. That's it. Shinkai builds a romance where a glance means more than dialogue ever could, where the garden becomes a third character that holds their story safe from the world. Takao, a high school student training to become a shoemaker, finds inspiration in the rain and skips class to sketch shoe designs in a Japanese-style garden. One rainy morning he meets Yukino there, an older woman who seems adrift in the world. With no plan to meet, they keep crossing paths in the garden whenever it rains, and Takao offers to make her a new pair of shoes. What starts as casual conversation slowly grows into something deeper, and simply spending time together eases worries each of them has kept hidden. The gap in their ages and lives remains, and their own struggles have not gone away. As the rainy season nears its end, Takao wonders whether enough time is left to turn his feelings into words and action.
