The opening episode hooks you with something so simple it shouldn't work: a boy who photographs the sky meets a girl addicted to tomato juice, and somehow that collision becomes the most honest romance anime has ever told. Every conversation between them costs something, and the show tracks that cost with surgical precision, using night and light and small gestures to say what dialogue can't. By episode 13 you realize the sky he was always photographing wasn't scenery at all.

Yorito Morimiya, a high school student, is obsessed with the sky and loves photographing it in every form: sunrises, sunsets and clouds. Rising at four in the morning to capture the sunrise over the bay, he comes across a strange girl battling a vending machine that swallowed her money for a can of tomato juice. He helps her pry it loose, but by the time the can drops, she has disappeared. The story centers on Yorito, his sister Aono, their childhood friends Mana and Koyori Ishizuki, and the mysterious girl who comes and goes and seems to hide a dark secret. Magic and the supernatural lurk close beneath the surface, nobody is quite who they appear to be, and love and loneliness compete under Yorito's sky in this supernatural romance drama.
