The bunny girl outfit is the trick. What actually happens is Sakuta and Mai talking in a convenience store becomes the emotional center of a show about adolescence so real it hurts. Sakuta Azusagawa is a high school student who spots a girl in a bunny girl costume wandering the library. Nobody else seems to notice her. The girl turns out to be Mai Sakurajima, his upperclassman and a well-known actress who has stepped away from show business, and she is caught up in puberty syndrome, a rare and supernatural condition that affects only teenagers and that most people dismiss as a myth. Sakuta sets out to solve the mystery and help her, and as they spend time together he learns what she has been keeping to herself. His efforts soon lead him to other girls who are dealing with the syndrome too. The series mixes romance, comedy and drama with psychological and supernatural mystery.
