Kenshin spends this entire OVA trying to die with honor instead of learning how to live with guilt. Kaoru waits at home while he wanders, and the animation doesn't flinch from showing you exactly what that costs her. The orchestral score doesn't save anyone, doesn't resolve anything, it just makes you feel the weight of choices that can't be unmade, and a man too broken to come home even when home is still waiting.
