A masked swordsman keeps appearing exactly when you need him, and nobody knows why, which is the entire point of watching this movie. Anpanman movies don't pretend to be anything more than a parade of food-themed characters saving the day together, and this one leans into that warmth instead of fighting it. By the time you realize who Naganegiman is, you've already stopped caring about the mystery and started caring about the crew trying to get home before sunset.
