This one slows the whole Anpanman machine down to the speed of light bending across a night sky. Ruby is not a cute sidekick, she is an Aurora Girl who got thrown out of her own country for being insufferable, and the first thing she does with Anpanman is lie straight to his face about why she needs the Aurora no Shizuku. The gag is that it does not matter. He helps her anyway, because that is what he is, and watching a selfish kid try to run a con on someone with zero suspicion in him is quietly devastating for a movie aimed at four-year-olds. Then Baikinman catches wind of three free wishes and the whole thing turns into a race. The aurora work is the reason to sit still for it, curtains of color doing more emotional lifting than any line of dialogue. You come for the bread hero, you stay because Ruby has to decide who she actually is.

Ruby is an Aurora Girl who creates the northern lights alongside her kind. Her selfish, unpleasant behavior gets her banished from Aurora Land, and she learns she can earn forgiveness by finding the Aurora no Shizuku, a stone able to grant three wishes. After meeting Anpanman, she lies to him, claiming she needs the stone to save her land. When Baikinman also takes an interest in the three wishes, Ruby is torn between helping her new friends and securing her way back home. A comedic Anpanman feature film.
