A cocky fighter pilot gets yeeted through time and suddenly has to save the future with a high school friend group that has absolutely no business being there. Shinbo's direction turns what could've been a generic time-travel story into something that moves so fast you barely notice the whiplash between comedy and combat. The show never apologizes for being fun, and it doesn't pretend the stakes matter more than watching Yohko figure out who she actually is when everything she knew is gone.

In the year 2999, humanity is divided into two factions, Terra and Ness, locked in a war waged with starships. Among the top pilots is Yamamoto Yohko, a brash teenager. On one mission, a temporal anomaly swallows her and her crew and throws them back to the present day. With her memory gone, Yohko believes she is just an ordinary high school student. Then a chain of events returns her to her ship, the TA-29, and her new friends join her in the fight. The war itself bears an odd resemblance to an arcade game, right down to a 100 yen charge to start the engines. Across 26 episodes, the TV series mixes science fiction, action and adventure.
