This is the fourth major arc of a 25-year-old franchise, and 3199 assumes you already know what it costs to save Earth. The crew isn't young anymore, and neither is the audience that grew up watching them sacrifice everything across 2199, 2202, and 2205. Yamato doesn't reset, it accumulates. Every choice they made before feeds into what breaks them now.

Two years have passed since Gamilas and Iscandar disappeared, and in 2207 a gigantic object known as the Grand Reverse arrives and slices through the planet's defenses with ease. Masses of soldiers and many-legged tanks rapidly overrun Earth's capital. In the confusion, the veteran Yamato crew is handed a secret order and sets off on a voyage toward dimensions no one has seen, while the survival of humanity is at stake. A sci-fi action sequel to the Space Battleship Yamato 2205 films, its 26 OVA episodes were split into seven parts and shown in theaters.
