This is the branching point where one choice, one refusal to open a message, collapses everything Okabe fought for. Mayuri's desperation to protect him becomes the thing that destroys the world. The cruelty isn't in the time travel mechanics or the fate itself, it's that Okabe never even knows what he failed to prevent until it's already gone.

In this alternate take on the twenty-third episode of Steins;Gate, a single change sends events down a different path. Mayuri begs Suzuha to stop depending on Okabe to prevent World War III, and as a result Okabe never receives the Movie Mail from his future self. Without it, he never learns of Operation Skuld and cannot save Kurisu or stop the war. Pushed past his emotional limits, Okabe gives up helping the time traveler, sure that any further attempt to rescue Kurisu is pointless. He drops his mad scientist act and lives as an apparently ordinary university student. Mayuri takes this as a sign he is healing and is openly glad, yet something still weighs on him. This psychological sci-fi OVA, bundled with the Steins;Gate Complete Blu-ray Box, opens the divergent timeline that leads into Steins;Gate 0.
