You're watching a love triangle that actually remembers why you cared about these people in the first place. The special doesn't reset anything, it picks up the emotional momentum and lets the characters keep moving forward instead of spinning their wheels. The movie-within-the-movie setup means you get to see them all pretend to be in love while actually being in love, which is exactly the kind of soft, ridiculous comedy this show does better than it has any right to.
