When the world's athletes gather for the Olympic Games, one artist imagines a parallel competition where animals take center stage. Yasuji Murata made his Animal Olympic Games around the time of the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics, and the short came out in 1932, ahead of the Los Angeles Games that July. Those Games marked a big step forward for Japan, which took home seven gold medals. The result is a brief sports-themed animated film from the early days of Japanese animation.
