The cast stops being a lineup of alien girls and becomes actual people with histories that matter. Season 2 trades the season 1 action scaffolding for something riskier: it bets everything on whether you actually care about Sasami, Washu, and Ryō-Ohki as characters, not plot devices. The harem jokes land harder when they're grounded in real relationships, and the sci-fi worldbuilding gets dense enough that you're not just watching a comedy anymore. The humor misfires sometimes, especially when it leans too hard into the fanservice angle. What makes it work is the show's refusal to choose between being genuinely funny and giving you reasons to want these people around.

Tenchi Masaki still lives on Earth with Ryoko, Washu, Aeka, Sasami, Mihoshi and the cat-like Ryo-Ohki while the galaxy stays at peace. The women squabble for his attention and turn every household chore into a disaster, yet he grows closer to each of them. This six-episode OVA mixes action, comedy and science fiction as it fills in the stories of Sasami, Washu, Ryoko and Ryo-Ohki and brings in members of the Juraian royal family.
