High school freshman Kazunari Usa gets to live on his own when his parents are transferred for work, and he moves into the Kawai Complex, a boarding house that serves its residents meals. He hopes for a quiet life free of strange people, but the tenants turn out to be eccentric. His roommate Shirosaki is a perverted masochist. Mayumi, an office lady who drinks heavily, resents couples after her bad luck with men. Sayaka, a college student who looks innocent, likes to string men along. Dismayed, Usa is ready to leave until he meets Ritsu Kawai, a shy upperclassman who also lives there, and he gradually falls for her. The result is a comedy, romance and slice-of-life story in which his days at the house are never dull. The Japanese title is a pun that means both that everyone lives at the Kawai dorm and that everyone is pitiful.
