A girl wanders Kyoto for one perfect night while a boy chases the coincidence of running into her, and the entire city becomes a funhouse mirror designed to keep them colliding. Every frame moves like it's alive, bending perspective and color until you stop asking what's real and just ride the absurdity. By the end you realize the whole night was built to answer one question: what does it take for someone to finally see you.

A college student keeps arranging run-ins with a black-haired girl a year below him, making each one look like a coincidence, and follows her around Kyoto on a strange night that seems to stretch for a year. She has no interest in romance yet, so his feelings go unnoticed. She trusts that fate links everything and tries every new experience she can. Her route runs from the Pontocho nightlife to a used book fair in Shimogamo and on to a college festival. When she learns that a book from her childhood is being sold at a second-hand bookstore, he sees a chance to buy it first and finally catch fate's thread. Along the way, odd characters cause wild incidents: a man who calls himself Tengu, god of second-hand books, and a money lender who hoards young men's underwear aboard a three-story barge. The film is a comic romance adapted from a novel by Tomihiko Morimi.
